Comparison of combined spinal-epidural anesthesia and general anesthesia in cesarean section for severe preeclampsia

Abstract

Objective To compare the effects of general anesthesia (GA) and combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSEA) in cesarean section for severe preeclampsia. Methods A total of 110 cesarean section women with severe preeclampsia treated in Zaozhuang Maternal and Child Health Hospital from July 2017 to June 2019 were selected, and they were divided into GA group and CSEA group according to the way of anesthesia, with 55 cases in each group. The operation and anesthesia related indexes, neonatal Apgar score, neonatal neurobehavioral (NBNA) score and umbilical artery blood gas index were compared between the two groups. Results The operation time and the time from anesthesia to delivery in GA group were less than those in CSEA group (P 0.05). The Apgar score of neonates in GA group was significantly lower than that in CSEA group (P< 0.05). The level of PCO2 in GA group was significantly higher than that in CSEA group, while the values of PO2 and pH in CSEA group were lower than those in CSEA group (P< 0.05). Conclusions GA and CSEA can meet the needs of cesarean section anesthesia in severe preeclampsia parturients, and have no significant influence on neonatal neurobehavioral ability. GA anesthesia plays a faster role, but has a certain effect on umbilical artery blood gas and neonatal Apgar score. Key words: Preeclampsia; Cesarean section; Anesthesia
