Abstract
Objective To evaluate the outcomes of tubularized transverse preputial island flap urethroplasty (Duckett)for the repair of hypospadias. Methods We reviewed 558 hypospadias repairs including 457 Duckett and 101 Duckett + Duplay repairs performed between 2006 and 2008. The mean age was 3. 4 years (range: 1-8 years). The surgical results and postoperative complications were retrospectively analyzed. Results We followed-up the patients for 12-36 months. 336 cases were cured in 457 hypospadias cases (73. 5%) repaired by Duckett procedure. 121 patients had postoperative complications, among of them, fistula in 61, stenosis in 10, diverticulum in 42, fistula + diverticulum in 8. 74 cases were cured in 101 Duckett + Duplay repairs (73.3%). 27 patients developed complications, including fistula in 13, stenosis in 6, diverticulum in 5, fistula + diverticulum in 3. There was no significant difference between two groups (P>0. 05). 108 case of Duckett and 18 cases of Duckett + Duplay complications were repaired successfully by one additional surgery. Another 21 cases required two additional procedures. Conclusions Tubularized transverse preputial island flap urethroplasty provide satisfactory results for hypospadias with chordee. Key words: Hypospadias; Urethroplasty; Urologic surgical procedures
