Treatment of Moyamoya disease by extracranial-intracranial revascularization

Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy and experiences of extracranial-intracranial revascularization for the treatment of Moyamoya disease.Methods Clinical data of 28 patients with Moyamoya disease were analyzed retrospectively form March 2011 to December 2012,including 22 cases of ischemic lesion,6 case of hemorrhage lesion,all patients received extracranial-intracranial revascularization treatment.Results 23 patients had excellent recovery after surgery,the incidence of transient ischemic attack and cerebral hemorrhage were obviously reduced; the clinical symptoms were improved in 3 patients;the neurologic function of 2 patients deteriorated because of the cerebral infarction.Conclusions Extracranial-intracranial revascularization can re-establish the blood circulation for Moyamoya disease patients,reduce the recurrence of cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage.Extracranialintracranial revascularization is an effective treatment for Moyamoya disease.
