Abstract

Abstract Since prehistoric times, many plant species are used as traditional medicine practices and those are called medicinal plants or medicinal herbs. Most of the plants around us are used traditionally as Indian folk medicine, either in Ayurvedic system or in Unani system of treatment. The extracts of these plants are used as herbal tonic and nowadays some are widely used in Homeopathy mode of treatment. Till date many plants have been identified and researched on to find their medicinal use. As plant medicines not only can cure light diseases or act as health tonic, but through prolong use they can also cure some severe and chronic diseases. There are numerous plants with medicinal properties around the globe as well as in India, but this article deals with few common medicinal plants and their importance in a nutshell.
