External-route microsurgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of external-route microsurgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment.Methods Fifteen cases (15 eyes) with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment were treated by external-route microsurgery from October,2010 to July,2012.Under surgical microscope,the encircling and its suture were preplaced,then drainage of subretinal fluid or aqueous fluid,retinal cryotherapy,buckling,examination of locating the roles,encircling and intraocular injection of expanding gases were performed.The surgical effects were compared with those of other simultaneous 21 cases (21 eyes) with simple rhegmatogenous retinal detachment which underwent surgery by the same way.Results The followed-up ranged from 3 to 20 (6.43±2.50) months.Retinal reattachment was achieved primarily in 13 case and 18 cases respectively.The success rates were 86.67％ and 85.71％,there weren't definite difference between the two groups (x2=0.07,P =0.94).Furthermore,both groups hadn't serious complications.Conclusions The external-route microsurgery is also suitable for rhegrnatogenous retinal detachment associated with choroidal detachment,and it is simple,convenient,easy to learn and effective.
