Abstract
Objective To identify the professional core competencies and training demand for nurses in ICU. Methods A descriptive design was used in this study. From February to March in 2008, 632 ICU nurses from 16 hospitals in china completed the questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 13.0. Results The average score of the professional core competencies for nurses in ICU was 3. 66±0. 59, which in the a moderate to high level. The average score of training demand for nurses in ICU was 2. 20 ± 0. 63, which in a fairy high leveL Conclusions The level of the professional core competencies for nurses in ICU is fairly high, which includes management, professional nursing in patients, professional shill, and teaching. The level of training de-mnnd for nurses in ICU is fairly high.
