The significance of combined detection of immunohistochemical markers in the pathological diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor

Abstract

Objective To explore the significance of combined detection of immunohistochemical markers in its pathological diagnosis by analyze the expression of CD34, CD117, DOG-1, SMA, Demsin, and S-100 and their relationship about clinicopathological features in strointestinal stromal tumors. Methods 65 pathological samples of gastrointestinal stromal tumor confirmed after operation from January 2016 to December 2018 were randomly selected from the Jining First People’s Hospital. All of the 65 patients received surgical treatment. The expressions of CD34, CD117, DOG-1, SMA, Demsin, and S-100 in the tumor were detected by immunohistochemical method. The correlation between the expression of relevant immunohistochemical markers and clinicopathological factors such as tumor size and location were analyzed based on the clinicopathological data, and the patients were followed-up. Results The positive rates of CD34, CD117, DOG-1, SMA, Demsin, and S-100 were 89.2%, 98.5%, 96.9%, 35.4%, 20.0%, and 16.9%, respectively. The expression of CD34 was related to tumor size, location, and risk level (P<0.05), while the expression of CD117, DOG-1, SMA, Demsin, and S-100 were not related, and the expression of Demsin was related to gender (P=0.018). Conclusions The expression of CD34, CD117, and DOG-1 in the tumor have relatively high positive rates. CD117 and DOG-1 are two indexes that could assist CD34 in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor, and the combined detection of immunohistochemical markers is helpful in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor.
