Preparation of Breast Cancer Empowerment Scale and analysis of its reliability and validity

Objective To develop a Breast Cancer Empowerment Scale and test its reliability and validity, so as to provide effective measurement tools for assessing empowerment in breast cancer patients. Methods According to the definition of empowerment behavior, through a combination of literature analysis, group discussion and other methods, the item pool was formed. The draft scale was formed through expert consultation. The scale was used to investigate 408 cases of breast cancer patients, using PASW Statistics 18 software for statistical analysis, to evaluate its reliability and validity. Results The Breast Cancer Empowerment Scale consisted of 30 items, and 3 factors were extracted through exploratory factor analysis, with the cumulative contribution rate 71.4%. The content validity index entry level (I-CVI) was from 0.818 to 1.000, and the content validity index (S-CVI) level was 0.964. Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.883, and the test-retest correlation coefficient was 0.856 (P<0.01) . Conclusions The Breast Cancer Empowerment Scale developed in this study has good reliability and validity. It can be used to assess the empowerment behavior of breast cancer patients in China.
