Study on the correlation between anterior overbite with maxillary and mandibular rotation and the gonial angle

Objective To investigate the correlation between anterior overbite, the gonial angle, the mandibular plane angle and inclination of the palatal plane, and to explore treatment of various vertical patterns by controlling the changes in anterior overbite. Methods 176 patients with different orthodontic patients before treatment were selected and cephalometric analyzed. Linear analysis was used to study the correlation each between anterior overbite and three aspects, namely the gonial angle, the mandibular plane angle and the palatal plane angle. Results Anterior overbite percentage and the gonial angle were negatively correlated(r=-0.398, P 0.05). Conclusions The anterior overbite decreased with the increase of the gonial angle and the increase of the mandibular plane angle. However, the rotation of the palate plane had no effect on the anterior teeth overbite. Key words: overbite; gonial angle; mandibular plane angle; palatal plane angle
