Abstract

Objective To evaluate the long-term (more than 10 years) safety and efficacy of laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for correcting myopia with high and super high degree. Methods The data of 119 eyes of 60 cases of mypia with high and super high degree from May 2002 to Oct. 2005 were collected and analyzed retrospectively.According to the spherical equivalent refraction(SE), they were divided into 2 groups: high myopia group, 72 eyes, the SE before surgery were -6.00--8.00D; super-high myopia group, 47 eyes, the SE before surgery were -8.50D--12.25D. Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), SE, thickness of corneal and intraocular pressur (IOP) were observed and recorded. The degree of myopia regression, the proportion of UCVA≥0.5 or UCVA≥1.0 were analyzed statistically. Results After 10 years follow-up, cases of UCVA≥0.5 accounted for 90.1% and UCVA≥1.0 for 30.0%. After surgery all cases of BCVA were the same as before surgery. Cases of UCVA≥1.0 occupyed for 75.0% in high myopia group, and 4.0% in super-high myopia group. The difference was statistically significant (χ2=6.325, P<0.05). The degree of myopia regression ≤-0.75D occurred in 5 eyes of high myopia group. In super-high myopia group the degree of myopia regression <-0.75D were in 5 eyes, and ≥0.75D in 25 eyes. The difference was statistically significant (χ2=8.634, P<0.05). After surgery the average SE was (-0.50±1.05)D, the difference was statistically significant between before and after surgery (t=-30.246, P<0.01). Conclusion LASIK for correcting myopia with high and super high degree is an effective and safe surgery with high predictability. In the long-term follow, super-high myopia patients is found the high rate of myopia regression, low predictability and obverious glare.
