The monitoring on molecular epidemiology of rotavirus diarrhea of children in Nanjing city during 2011-2013

Abstract

Objective To investigate the molecular epidemiology of rotavirus infected in children with viral diarrhea from July 2011 to June 2013 in Nanjing. Method 807 stool specimens of outpatient children with diarrhea in Nanjing Children's Hospital were collected from July 2011 to June 2013. Rotavirus were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the positive samples further were test with nested RT-PCR methods. The sequences of gene fragments are analyzed. Result In the 807 specimens, 31.1% (251) specimens were rotavirus-positive. Patients infected with RV were mainly under 2 years old and the rotavirus diarrhea predominated in spring and winter months. The detection ratios of rotavirus were 30% and 32.19% in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 respectively.WithinVP7 serotype of rotavirus-positive specimens, G9 and G3 were the major G type, accounted for 53.39% and 16.33% respectively. P[8]was the mainly genotype in VP4 serotype, which was accounted for 86.1%. According to G/P type, G9P[8](28.3%), G3P[8](25%), G1P[8](17.5%)andG2P[4](15%) were the main kinds of Rotavirus strains in 2011-2012 as well as G9P[8](72.52%) in 2012- 2013. Conclusion RV occupied an important status in children with viral diarrhea in young children in Nanjing. Rotavirus G9 genotype were more prevalence than G3 genotype, becoming a major strains in Nanjing. Key words: Diarrhea; Infant; Rotavirus; Epidemiology
