Abstract

Objective To evaluate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy in patients with obstructive sleep apnea - hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) complicated with type 2 diabetes. Methods Thirty patients with OSAHS complicated with type 2 diabetes were treated by CPAP for 12 weeks(5 -7 hours every evening). The fasting blood glucose,HbA1c and fasting insulin were detected before and after treatment. Results After the application of CPAP treatment, the fasting blood glucose,HbA1c,insulin resistance index significantly decreased and there was significant difference, there was not significant difference in fasting insulin. Conclusions CPAP treatment can be an effective method for improving the insulin resistance and decreasing blood glucose of the OSAHS patients complicated with type 2 diabetes. Key words: Obstructive sleep apnea -hypopnea syndrome;  Type 2 diabetes;  Continuous positive airway pressure;  Insulin resistance;  Blood glucose
