Abstract

Objective To observe the safely and efficacy of vitrectomy combined lens phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation to treat cataract proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Methods Retrospectively analyzed the cataract proliferative diabetic retinopathy of 23 patients (26 eyes), by the information of vitrectomy combined lens phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation, observe the result. Results The follow-up pe- riod was 7 -24 months with the average of 12.8 months. Postoperatively visual improvement was achieved in 20 eyes ( 76.92% ) ; Visual acuity remained unchanged in 5 eyes ( 19.23% ) ; and decreased in 1 eye (3.85%). without significant complications in the majority of selected eyes after surgery. Postoperation complica- tions consisted of a mild corneal edema in 7 eyes ( 26.92% ) ; anterior chamber fibrin exudation in 6 eyes (23.08%) ; vitreous hemorrhage in 3 eyes ( 11.54% ) ; retinal detachment in 2 eyes (7.69%) ; after cataract in 8 eyes (30.77%) ; posterior synecbia of the iris in 4 eyes ( 15.38% ). Retinal photoeoagnlation was performed in 15 eyes after surgery. Conclusion Vitrectomy combined lens phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation to treat cataract proliferative diabetic retinopathy, improve the visual of majority of patients, surgery is safe and efficient. Key words: vitrectomy;  proliferative diabetic retinopathy ; phacoemulsification ;  lens, intraocular
