Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical effect of corneal endothelium transplantation for corneal decompensation. Methods Six eyes of 6 patients of secondary corneal decompensation after cataract surgery were enrolled. They had undergone corneal endothelium transplantation. The 13~14 mm diameter of deep lamellar corneal endothelial implant was separated with cornea knife, and it was transplanted into receptor anterior chamber. Results The six eyes were followed up for over 6 months. The cornea was transparent in all cases, and the endothelial implant attached well. The visual acuity was improved from preoperative FC-0.05 to 0.12-0.3 six months after surgery. The average corneal endothelial cell density increased significantly from ≤656/mm2 preoperatively to 1889-2456/mm2 postopevatively. Conclusion The corneal endothelium transplantation is an effective method for the treatment of corneal decompensation. Key words: Corneal endothelium transplantation; Corneal decompensation
