Narrow-band ultraviolet B in the treatment of vitiligo

Abstract

Vitiligo is a common depigmentary disease with great physical and psychological impact on patients'quality of life.Narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) has shown a good efficacy in vitiligo.The clinical efficacy and adverse effects are compared between NB-UVB monotherapy and combined therapy with other drugs.NB-UVB i8 safe and effective for generalized vitiligo in adults and children as well as for localized vitiligo that severely affects patients'quality of life.Furthermore,a favorable treatment outcome seems to be achiered in patients with skin phototypes Ⅲ to Ⅴ and ia lesions on the face and neck.Further studies are warranted to estimate the effects,side effects and potential long-term risks of NB-UVB combined with other therapies.
