Clinical analysis of 14 children with Brucellosis

Abstract

Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease caused by Brucella. The main source of infection are sheep and cattle. Brucella is a Gram-negative coccobacillus belonging to 6 species, of which the sheep are the most pathogenic, and spread through damaged skin mucosa, digestive tract and respiratory tract. Brucellosis is mainly prevalent in pastoral areas in China. Yunnan is a non-pastoral area, the incidence of Brucellosis is low, clinicians have insufficient understanding of Hrucellosis, and clinical misdiagnosis. All 14 children were infected with Brucella, and all of them had a history of exposure to sheep. After 14 cases of Brucella infection were diagnosed, the corresponding antibiotics were given according to age and condition. And all patients were cured. There was no recurrence after 1 year of follow-up. The clinical manifestations of Brucella infection in children are diverse and easy to be misdiagnosed. The history of epidemiology, especially history of contact with cattle and sheep, and improvement of blood culture, bone marrow culture and Brucella antibody detection as early as possible are the key to the diagnosis.
