Abstract

Twelve children with temporal epilepsy(TLE) were treated by anterior temporal lobectomy. Variable degree of histopathologic abnormalies in the focal brain was found in 9 children. There was no,operating mortality. All of them had no postoperative disorder of nervous system. Eleven children were followed up for 2-3 years. Distinct improvement was achieved in 4 children, some improvement in 1,the frequence and degree of seizures decreased by 60% in 6 children. The localization of epilepsy focus with electrocorticography, the operative indication and the pathological findings related to surgical results of the pediatric TLE are discussed in this paper. The authors conclude that anterior temporal lobectomy is effective in the treatment of early stage pediatric TLE. Key words: Temporal lobe; Epilepsy; Cerebral cortex; Electroencephalography
