Relationship of meningioma peritumoral edema, angiogenesis and expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor

Abstract

Objective To study the relationship of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)expression level with angiogenesis and peritumoral brain edema(PTBE)in meningiomas tissue. Methods 84 cases of meningioma cryopreserved specimens were collected, including 48 cases peritumoral edema(swelling group),36 cases of edema(swelling of non-group). Also take 10 cases of normal brain tissue over the same period due to normal brain tissue hospital traumatic brain injury line standard decompressive craniectomy as a control group. VEGF protein expression level were detected by Immunohistochemistry and Western blotting, the expression of VEGF mRNA level were detected by reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction(RT - PCR)assay; expression of CD34 and determination microvascular density(MVD) were detected through immunohistochemical staining, the calculation of peritumoral edema index(EI), and the correlation with VEGF expression were analyze. Results Edema group, non-edema and control groups differ in brain tissue VEGF protein expression, respectively,1.892±0.214,1.168±0.218,0.683±0.197, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);edema group, non-edema and control groups expression of VEGF mRNA in brain tissue were 1.232±0.257, 1.002±0.132, 0.702±0.198, the difference was statistically signigicant (P<0.05). Conclusion Expression of VEGF was increased in meningioma tissue and may promote angiogenesis meningiomas and affect the formation PTBE.
