Abstract
Objective To investigate the feasibility, efficacy and advantage of phacoemulsification in the treatment of acute and chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma. Methods Clinical data of 48 eyes of 42 cases with acute or chronic angle-closure glaucoma treated with phacoemulsification combined with trabeculectomy were analyzed retrospectively. The pre-and post-operative best corrected visual acuity, pupil size, intraocular pressure (IOP),angle of anterior chamber, anterior chamber depth, visual field and state of glare were observed and compared. Results The follow-up time was over 3 months. The postoperative best corrected visual acuity of most cases were improved by more than one line compared with preoperative ones, except for 2 eyes (4.17%) with lower postoperative visual acuity and 4 eyes (8.33%) with no obvious improvement. The postoperative lOP of 42 eyes (87.50%) was (15 ± 6) mmHg.The average postoperative anterior chamber depth was deepened by 1.6 mm,and preoperative closed angle was also open to different degrees. The postoperative visual quality was improved. No serious complication or sequela was recorded. Conclusion Phacoemulsification has advantages of significant antihypertensive effect, increasing visual acuity, safety and fewer complications in the treatment of acute and chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma. Key words: Phacoemulsification ; Glaucoma, angle-closure ; Advantage
