Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of Wendan decoction combined with azithromycin on children with phlegm-dampness obstructive pulmonary pneumonia. Methods Eighty-six children with phlegm-dampness obstructive pulmonary pneumonia treated in Henan Children’s Hospital from July 2016 to April 2018 were selected and divided into observation group and control group according to the random number table method, with 43 cases in each group. Patients in control group were treated with azithromycin, and patients in observation group were treated with Wendan decoction combined with azithromycin. Moreover, the symptom score, white blood cell count, C-reactive protein (CRP) and adverse reactions of the two groups were compared. Results The scores of small and medium-sized vesicle sound, phlegm sound, cough, mental condition, appetite and tongue coating in observation group after treatment were lower than those in control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the white blood cell count and CRP level in observation group were lower than those in control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Compared with control group, the incidence of adverse reactions in observation group was lower, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Wendan decoction combined with azithromycin can effectively reduce inflammation in children with phlegm-dampness obstructive pulmonary pneumonia and improve clinical symptoms with high safety. Key words: Pediatric pneumonia; Phlegm-dampness pulmonary type; Wendan decoction; Azithromycin; Adverse reactions
