Causes and prognosis of patients transferring from hemodialysis to peritoneal dialysis

Abstract
Objective To analyze the causes and prognosis of patients transferring from hemodialysis to peritoneal dialysis. Methods We retrospectively investigated the causes and prognosis of transferring from hemodialysis to peritoneal dialysis in patients between Feb. 2005 and Oct. 2009. Results 21 peritoneal dialysis patients were recruited for analysis. The maior reasons for the transfer were the poor hemodialysis vascular access and the unstable of cardiovascular system. 7 patients were died. Diabetic patients and Hypoproteinemia had worse prognosis. Conclusion The main causes of transferring to peritoneal dialysis were poor hemodialysis vascular access and the unstable of cardiovascular system. Patients with diabetic nephropathy and mal nutrition have worse prognosis.
