Abstract

Objective To retrospectively analyze the basic information and injury severity of 187orthopedic inpatients in Lushan earthquake, conclude their injury characteristics in contrast to the patients in Whenchuan earthquake in an equal period of time and provide reference for developing a sound and complete emergency system of medical rescue following an earthquake. Methods Until 28 April,2013,the data related to earthquake patients were collected for their basic information.Microsoft EXCEL for data input and SPSS 18.0 for statistical analysis were used. Results When compared with “5 ·12” Wenchuan earthquake in an equal period of time,Lushan earthquake revealed a lower proportion of the patients subjected to proximal limb fracture, open fracture or multi-organ damage and a higher proportion of the patients with thoracolumbar spine fracture or distal limb fractures. Conclusion The initial success is observed in regional emergency medical response, search and rescue capacity, triage, saving the life of the severely injured and limb salvage after disasters. Key words: Disasters;  Wounds and injuries;  Earthquakes
