Abstract

Objective To investigate the treatment for dacryocystitis of different months old infant. Methods The data of 5032 eyes of 4612 cases with neonatal dacryocystitis who treated by probing of lacrimal passage and lacrimal sac massage were collected. Results About 5026 eyes(99.88%)were cured and recovered to normal lacrimal function, while only 6 eyes(0.12%)were not. The efficacy of lacrimal sac massage in the treatment of neonatal dacryocystitis was obvious for neonates younger than 3 months, and the efficacy of probing of lacrimal passage for infant elder than 3 months was better. Conclusion Lacrimal sac massage is suitable for neonates younger than 3 months, while probing of lacrimal passage can cure elder infants better. Key words: Infant; Age; Dacryocystitis; Massage, lacrimal sac; Probing, lacrimal passage
