Abstract
Objective To investigate the relevant factors of neonatal hypoglycemia and the clinical features,to provide the basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods All 80 newborns with hypoglycemia in department of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of Jiangmem Central Hospital were consecutively recruited from 2010 to 2012.Other 80 orthoglycemic newborns in NICU were included in the study to characterize their clinical features, perinatal condition, birth condition and common neonatal complications.Laboratory tests included blood glucose. Results The relevant factors of neonatal hypoglycemia were hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, preterrm infant,Small for gestational age infant, twins or multiple births,day-old ≤ 3 days, low birth weight infant and asphyxia of newborn.Concltsions For the newborn with risk factors, they should be monitored with blood glucose and intervened early,to prevent neonatal hypoglycemia and incidence and reoccurrence of brain injury. Key words: Newborn; Hypoglycemia; Brain injury
