Abstract
Interleukin (IL)-17C,a multifunctional cytokine derived from epithelial cells,is different from the other IL-17 family members. There is a preferential and inductive expression of IL-17C in multiple infections and inflammatory reactions.By specifically binding to its high-affinity receptor,IL-17C can act on target cells or interact on other cytokines in an autocrine manner, induce the expressions of antimicrobial peptides,pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. It is involved in the initiation of multiple diseases of epithelial origin (including psoriasis),and may play an important role in their pathogenesis. The authors review the biological function of IL-17C and its relationship with psoriasis. Key words: Psoriasis; Interleukin-17C; Epithelial cells
