Clinical significance of soluble P-selectin in children with severe pneumonia accompanying sepsis

Abstract

Objective To study the relevancy between soluble P-selectin and other clinical biomarkers, pe-diatric critical illness score in children with severe pneumonia accompanying sepsis, and to discuss the clinical significance of soluble P-selectin in children with severe pneumonia accompanying sepsis. Methods One hundred and twenty-six children with severe pneumonia accompanying sepsis admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit were selected from January of 2010 to December of 2013 as research subjects.They were divided into the following groups according to their severity of their: sepsis group(n=71), severe sepsis group(n=42) and septic shock group(n=13). Their biomarkers were detected within 2 h after admission.The data were analyzed by SPSS 11.0 software, multiple linear regression analysis was made to evaluate the relationship between clinical biomarkers, pediatric critical illness score and soluble P-selectin. Results (1) The average level of soluble P-selectin, blood lactate, D-Dimer and interleukin-6 level increased, platelet count level decreased in 3 groups, and there were significant differences among 3 groups(P<0.05). (2)In this research, there were positive correlation between interleukin-6, D-Dimer and soluble P-selectin but negative correlation between pediatric critical illness score and soluble P-selectin. Conclusions The concentration of the soluble P-selectin may have very important clinical value in the early diagnosis and the prognosis of children with severe pneumonia accompanying sepsis.
