Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes of retinal function in stage 1 of diabetic retinopathy detected by multifoeal electroretinogram (mfERG).Methods The responses of mfERG were recorded and analyzed from eyes of 31 normal control subjects and 46 diabetic patients with stage 1 of diabetic retinopathy. Results In eyes of diabetic patients with stage 1 of diabetic retinopathy (DR), the lateneies of N1, P1 were delayed obviously compared to normal control subjects, in the field of about 30 degrees of six rings with different eccentricities; the response densities of the P1 ring1, 2 was significantly decreased in diabetic patients with stagel of diabetic retinopathy compared to normal control subjects. Conclusions The abnormalities of retinal function may occur in stagel of diabetic retinopathy, when there is no abnormality of ocular fundus. As a new objective and quantitative examination for visual function, mfERG may be valuable in early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. Key words: Multifocal electroretinogram (mIERG);  Diabetic retinopathy(DR)
