Abstract

Objective To study the effect and influencing factors of levetiracetam (LEV) on refactory epilepsy in children. Methods LEV was added to the treatment of 41 children with refactory epilepsy, and the LEV treatment lasted for more than 3 months, the effect was evaluated. The seizure types, brain CT and MRI were studied. Results Among the 41 patients,6(14.5%) children achived seizure-free,and 22 (53.5%) children had more than 50% reduction in seizure frequency. The total effective rate was 68%,the was no significant difference in efficacy for partial seizures and generalized seizures (P > 0.05),so did as total efficacy of idiopathic epilepsy and symptomatic epilepsy (P > 0.05),andduration of disease had no significant influence on the efficacy of levetiracetam. Conclusions LEV is effective and safe to different seizure types, childen have good tolerence. Key words: Levetiracetam ;  Refactory Epilepsy;  Effectiveness
