Abstract
Objective To study the clinical significance of facial nerve monitoring during acoustic neuromas operation in the aspect of protection. Method Based on retrospective summary, all 24 patients were divided into the IFNM group(12 cases) and the non-IFNM group(12 cases). Facial nerve function (FNF) assessed by a modified House-Brackmann grading(H-B) before the operation,two weeks after the operation was compared between the two groups. At the same time,the ratio of facial nerve preservation was compared between the two groups. Results There was no difference in the FNF between both groups before operation, and there was difference in the FNF between both groups after operation at two weeks. The ratio of facial nerve preservation of the non-IFNM group is 67%, and it is 92% in the group of the IFNM. Conclusions Facial nerve protection could be significantly increased by IFNM.
