Management of aneurysm rupture during endovascular coil embolization

Abstract
Objective To study the incidence,clinical outcomes and management of intraoperative aneurysm rupture during endovascular coil embolization. Methods Between September 2001 and September 2007, we treated 437 acutely ruptured cerebral aneurysms with GDCs.All charts were reviewed,and patients with aneurysmal rupture during embolization were identified. Results Fourteen (3.2%)patients had an intraoperative aneurismal rupture.Four patients died from the rupture.The mortality rate was 28.6%.Conclusions Aneurysmal rupture during endovascular treatment with GDCs is a rare event.When perforation is recognized,fitting treatment is needed.Most patients with treatment-related subarachnoid hemorrhage will survive without serious complication.
