Abstract
Presbyopia is a physiologic inevitability that causes the gradual loss of accommodation with aging. However, its pathophysiology remains poorly understood. An aging society produces more people impaired by presbyopia and greater demand for presbyopia correction. Therefore, the surgical correction of presbyopia currently has raised more interest among ophthalmologists. Continuous development of technologies and materials has provided numerous choices for the surgical management of presbyopia, including procedures performed on the cornea, lens or sclera. Although no existing procedures can restore eye accommodation, they have resulted in some good clinical outcomes. This paper provides an update on current procedures performed on the cornea that are available for presbyopia correction.
