Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of surgical intervention and postoperative treatment of senile acute intestinal obstruction (AIO). Methods Seventy-four elderly patients with acute intestinal obstruction admitted into our hospital from February, 2012 to December, 2016 were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group using digital table method. The control group were treated with non-surgical conservative treatment. The observation group were surgically treated. The effects after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results The cured rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (56.76% vs. 5.41%,χ2=22.774 1, P<0.05). More patients needed re-operation in the control group than in the observation group (2.70% vs 67.57%,χ2=34.153 8, P <0.05). The incidence of complications was lower in the observation group than in the control group (32.43% vs. 83.78%,χ2=20.040 5, P<0.05). The hospital stay was shorter in the observation group than in the control group (t=13.865 2, P<0.05). The satisfaction rate was significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (97.30% vs. 78.38%,χ2=11.291 3, P<0.05). Conclusion Patients with acute acute intestinal obstruction should take the correct treatment timely. in Comprehensive treatment for patients with surgical indications can increase the cures rate and the satisfaction. Key words: Senile; Acute intestinal obstruction; Conservative treatment; Surgical treatment
