Abstract
Objective To investigate the application value of electroencephalogram (EEG) and brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP) in the diagnosis and predicting prognosis of children with cerebral palsy. Methods Fifty children who were diagnosed as cerebral palsy in the Department of Children’s Rehabilitation Medicine of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2017 to September 2018 were selected as cerebral palsy group, and another 50 healthy children in the Pediatrics Department during the same period were selected as control group. The results of EEG and BAEP in control group and cerebral palsy group (before and 6 months after treatment) were collected and analyzed. Results Compared with control group, children in cerebral palsy group had different degrees of abnormalities according to EEG, and they were improved 6 months after treatment. At the same time, the latency of BAEP in cerebral palsy group was prolonged, and it was shorter in varying degrees 6 months after treatment than that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions EEG and BAEP of children with cerebral palsy shows different degrees of abnormalities, and have different degrees of improvement after treatment. They have certain clinical application value for the diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of children with cerebral palsy. Key words: Cerebral palsy; Electroencephalogram; Brainstem auditory evoked potentials
