Current evaluation and management of vallecular cyst in pediatric population

Vallecular cyst (VC) are rare congenital lesion of the upper aerodigestive tract. They may cause severe airway obstruction and failure to thrive morbidity in the infant and pediatric population. Diagnosis of vallecular cyst with the coexistence of laryngomalacia may be delayed in children through life-threatening airway obstruction. The combination of detail history, clinical features, radiological signs and endoscopic results are more specific than each on separately. We now review the latest epidemiology, embryopathology, clinical features, differential diagnosis, diagnostic evaluation, pathological diagnosis and treatment modalities for vallecular cyst.
