Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture

Objective To test the reliability and validity of Chinese version of Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture on medical staff and verify the applicability on the background of China .Methods Totals of 422 medical staff from 4 third-level general hospitals were selected through convenience sampling .The Cronbach’ s αcoefficient of the scale and dimensions were calculated to examine the internal consistency reliability.And 20 participants received retest after 2 weeks to examine the test-retest reliability.Expert judgment and exploratory factor analysis were performed to examine the content validity and construct validity respectively.Results The Cronbach’s αcoefficient of the scale was 0.892,the test-retest reliability was 0.854 （P〈0.01）.Totals of 11 factors were extracted with exploratory factor analysis , which explained 63.167% of the total variance .Compared with the original scale , Chinese version of Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture contained one less factor .Conclusions Chinese version of Hospital Survey on Patient Safety culture with good reliability and acceptable construct validity can be used among medical staff in China .
