The development and performance of a combined trichrome stain for the examination of Giardia lamblia in feces

Objective To develop a combined trichrome stain method for the examination of Giarlia lamblia in fecal smears.Methods Stool specimens collected from the field were preserved in polyvinyl alcohol fixative instead of Schaudinn's fixative,and were stained by Gomori's combined with Masson's trichrome staining and examined under the Olympus microscope.Results The Giarlia lamblia cysts were stained colorfully and their morphology and internal structures were distinct.Conclusion It is practical to examine the Giarlia lamblia cysts with the combined trichrome stain method.
