Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of tracheotomy in tracheobronchial foreign body in children. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 537 children who were diagnosed with tracheobronchial foreign body. Results Among the 537 cases, 515 cases(95.9%) used rigid bronchoscopy to take out the foreign body, 5 cases underwent the thoracic operation to take out the foreign body, 12 children to cough out the foreign body, 5 cases underwent tracheostomy for removal of the foreign body. While 1 case died of respiratory failure. Conclusions When foreign body airway obstruction, tracheostomy is occasionally indicated in foreign body extraction, it can effectively relieve dyspnea, and reduce the mortality. Key words: Foreign body; Tracheotomy; Dyspnea
