Park as suburb: A vision for creating healthy built environments

The Heart Foundation and ASPECT Studios recently shared a vision of a future, reimagined suburb in a collaborative entry to the International Future Park Design Ideas Competition, organised by the University of Melbourne and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA). The competition set a challenge to locate and design a future park within a 10km radius of Melbourne for the year 2050. Like many large cities around the world, Melbourne has experienced rapid population growth and urban densification in some areas, suburban growth in other parts. This raises questions over the capacity of existing parks to meet the needs of a contemporary city.
