Abstract
One of the biggest and most iconic museums of Hungary is currently being renovated. Before the renovation works had started, between 2016 and 2018, a significant and museologically unique research was conducted in order to ensure that the renewed museum can welcome its visitors with 21st-century experiences after the reopening. The series of research ensured the opportunity to examine various aspects of visitor experience and to test non-conventional forms of using space (for example co-working). Our article presents a smaller section of this series of research. We examined the visitor experience of the exhibition In the Mood for Colours, and analysed the function of ColourMirror, an interactive installation of the exhibition. The quantitative background for the analyses was ensured by over 38 thousand visitor scans collected by the ColourMirror installation in the course of 1 year. Besides the quantitative data, a smaller qualitative analysis based on the experience of 15 visitors contributed to the deeper understanding of the visitor experience. During this analysis, visitor paths in the exhibition venue were reconstructed, and visitor opinions and experiences were collected during post-interviews.
