Abstract

Effect of Zn and Mg content on microstructure, aging hardening behavior and mechanical properties of Al-3Zn-4. 5Mg-1Cu、Al-4Zn-3. 5Mg-1Cu and Al-4. 5Zn-3. 5Mg-1Cu alloys was investigated by means of hardness testing, ambient temperature tensile testing, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that Al-4. 5Zn-3. 5Mg-1Cu alloy exhibits the highest hardening effect after aging at 120 ℃ for 24 h,the hardness is about 183 HV3,tensile strength is about 617 MPa,yield strength is about 590 MPa and ductility is about 10. 2%. The increase of Zn content or Zn / Mg ratio results in a higher density of hardening precipitates with a smaller size, and therefore better hardening effect.
