Abstract
The structural behavior of cold-formed steel framing systems for affordable housing is presented in this study. The objectives are carried out to study the lateral-torsional buckling behavior of cold-formed and hot-finished steel structural framing systems incorporating lightweight load-bearing wall and slab and to compare the weight of the material used on the cold-formed and hot-finished steel structural of affordable housing. 243 members for each model are used to analyze the steel structural framing system. Model 1 is a cold-formed steel structural framing system and model 2 is a hot-finished steel structural framing system. Both of steel structures applied lightweight wall panel and lightweight composite slab. Model 3 and Model 4 are also a cold-formed steel structural framing systems and hot-finished steel structural framing system. Both of these structures using the brick walls and precast reinforced concrete. The models are drawn in AutoCAD and analyzed using STAAD.Pro software. The increasing of the buckling resistance causing lateral-torsional buckling condition. Other than that, the weight comparison of the steel structure shows that cold-formed steel structure with lightweight wall panel and lightweight composite slab like Model 1 is the best model due to lightweight property and more benefits for affordable housing.
