Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute All set for a blue revolution

The Central Marine Fisheries Research \nlnstitute was established by Government \nof India on February 3,1947 under the \nMinistry of Agriculture and Farmers \nWelfare and later, in 1967, it joined the \nICAR family and emerged as a leading \ntropical marine fisheries research \ninstitute in the world. Initially the \ninstitute's focus was on creating a strong \ndatabase on marine fisheries sector by \ndeveloping scientific methodologies for \nestimating the marine fish landings and \neffort inputs, taxonomy of marine organisms and the \nbiological aspects of the exploited stocks of finfish and \nshellfish on which fisheries management were to be \nbased. This focus contributed significantly to \ndevelopment of marine fisheries sector from a \npredominantly artisanal, sustenance fishery till the early \nsixties to that of a complex, multi-gear, multispecies \nfisheries.
