Abstract
Circular polarized design of modified hexagonal shape microstrip antenna is presented. The design is presented in two variations, first with slits on patch and second with slots on the ground plane as well. The modifications realized in patch degenerates patch fundamental mode into two orthogonal modes along horizontal and vertical directions which yield CP response. The slit cut design gives axial ratio bandwidth of 33 MHz (1.43%). For another set of slit dimensions on the patch, triangular slots were introduced in the ground plane of the hexagonal microstrip patch. This modified antenna yields 39 MHz (1.72%) of axial ratio bandwidth. In the two configuration of circular polarized designs, antenna offers peak broadside gain of nearly 3 dBi. The proposed compact design can be used in applications of personal communication systems in 2400 MHz frequency spectrum.
