Virtual Water Trade of Agricultural produces covering Water Scarcity in India

India like other spanning countries is facing acute water shortage. Water resources of India are under huge pressure of increasing population, climate change and target of achieving double digit economic growth. International trade of agriculture produces, imports of produces with higher water intensity is best possible way to save water in such a country. Virtual water links water, food and trade and is an effective tool to ease water shortage and virtual water trade is an implicit exchange of water of India in International market. This paper aims to understand agricultural improvement with this new perspective of virtual water trade technique. India is in trade surplus with exporting one crucial commodity which is water becoming largest exporter of water in 2014-15 and have lowest water imports in the world. This study considering the current slowdown in economy states that India cannot afford to have trade surplus in exchanging water.
