Abstract

Electromotive Jorce measurements all galvanic cells involvillg oxide electrolyte, (-) Carbon-satu rated E lec trol.yte Fe-C-O iron , 0 or C magnesIa or melts (+) (graphite powde r), 0 CaO • ZrO, have beell made ill order to determille oxy gell colltent dissolved ill the liquid F e-C-O solutions at 1600 o ±20' C .The experimelltal results were as Jollows:(1 ) The dependellce of the resultillg eiectro/1loti/'e Jorce 011 the activity q( oxygell ill liquid Fc-C-O solutiolls was exponential.( 2) From cOllversion charts oj electromotive Jorce verSlls activity of oxygen alld activil)' q( ox)' gell versus oxygen COli tent, oxygen concelltratioll in liquid iron could be estimated by electromotive Jorce measurements 011 the cell.(3) Carbon could be also determined simultaneously in the liquid Fe-C-O solutions where 0:9'gen alld carbon nre kept very close to equilibrium.
