Abstract
Fifty genotypes of cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (Linn.) Walp. subsp. cylindrica Van-Eseltine] showed high heritability for 100-seed weight, seeds/pod and days to maturity. The percentage of genetic gain was maximum for 100-seed weight, plant height, branches/plant and seeds/pod. Estimates of heritability and genetic gain were higher for 100-seed weight and seeds/pod, suggesting their use as selection criterion. Days to maturity had high heritability estimates but low genetic gain.
