Brookner’s Look At Me: Inner Life Story Of A Lonely Woman

Brookner's start in writing fiction by her first published novel, The Debut (published as A Start in Life in Britain) in 1981, undoubtedly made her novelist. Brookner’s Look at Me transmits the desperation of loneliness and eagerness. The novel rehearses the loneliness in the characters’ life due to  various reasons like loneliness due to orphanage, lonely childhood, alienated living surrounding, working in secluded environment, one-sided love, feeling of subordination, inferiority complex, emotional torture by friends, failure in sexual love, feeling of exclusion, out-classed, outsiderness, old age, being ill-fated, etc. These problems reflect through the incidents, characters’ behaviour and can be found commonly in the contemporary society and literature all over the world.
