Abstract
This chapter introduces exterior lighting. It differs in scale from interior lighting and there are different practical considerations, but the underlying principles are the same. We focus on the floodlighting of buildings and on pedestrian pathways. The design of vehicular route lighting is not covered. This is a separate specialism and is usually provided by street lighting luminaire manufacturers.
