Hearing testing is particularly important both as a me­thod of prevention (auditory screening) and as a me­thod of diag­nosing hearing loss and monitoring it. Determining the type of hearing loss, conductive, sen­so­ri­neu­ral or mixed is es­sen­tial in recommending the ap­pro­pria­te treatment for each patient. In addition, the sudden hearing loss must be au­dio­lo­gi­cal­ly diagnosed within the first 72 hours, given the me­di­cal urgency of the sudden onset of deafness. Masking is an audiometric me­thod essential in differentiating these types of hearing loss. It is a difficult to perform technique, which requires in­tense practice of the audiologist or audiometrist, un­der­stan­ding of the physiology of the auditory system and permanent observation of the tested patient.
