Evaluation of Biomaterials

Qizhi Chen, George Thouas

Open publisher page 7 citations

Abstract

Evaluation of a biomaterial destined for medical uses involves validation of both the materials properties and biological effects. Characterization of structures and measurement of the material properties is established in the materials field, while biological assessment is performed in the laboratory (in vitro), in animal models (in vivo), in humans (clinical trials), and in postimplantation follow-up studies [1,2].
